Our Theological House

Rebecca Ann Parker and John A Buehrens, both luminaries within the Unitarian Universalist movement, have collaborated on a remarkable book: A House for Hope: The Promise of Progressive Religion for the Twenty-First Century. http://www.uuabookstore.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=1261

A House for Hope examines and articulates a progressive liberal theology in its own terms, using the metaphor of a house to ground deep theological concepts in a real-world context.

To hear Parker and Buehrens read from and discuss their book, check out the video here http://www.uua.org/events/generalassembly/2010/ga2010/167359.shtml

Men, Women, and Margaret Fuller

Author/actress Laurie James’ original, one-woman drama creates a passionate portrait of the life and work of Margaret Fuller. Through Fuller’s own words you will see, hear and imagine the beginnings of the feminist viewpoints and principles that laid the groundwork for the women’s rights movement in the United States.

Newest Congregational Study/Action Issue: "Immigration as a moral issue"

The Unitarian Universalist General Assembly of 2010 has approved a new Congregational Study/Action Issue: "Immigration as a Moral Issue." From uua.org:

"Migration of people—driven by economic, social, political and environmental factors—is taking place around the world. Millions are currently in transit, in refugee camps, in detention centers, or living and working in places without full legal status and without access to social services or protection of civil rights.

"The dignity of all the world's peoples is core to Unitarian Universalist (UU) principles and values. Given the justice-oriented nature of UU faith, UUs are called to be leaders in the struggle for immigrant and refugee rights, and to view immigration not only as a legal issue but also moral issue."

For more about this, visit the Study/Action issue page here (link: http://secure2.uua.org/socialjustice/issuesprocess/currentissues/152647.shtml) and stay tuned to this blog for how our congregation will be involved in this important work.
